BARTA offers free rides to bicyclists during Bike to Work Week

National Bike to Work Week begins Monday, May 15 through Friday, May 19, 2023.

The Berks Area Regional Transportation Authority is offering a free ride for any customer who chooses to bring their bike on the bus for any part of their trip.

To support inter-modal transportation activities and National Bike to Work Week, BARTA is encouraging individuals to try biking and taking transit for their commute.

BARTA’s bus fleet has bike racks located on the front of the vehicle for customers to use. The bike racks can carry two bikes at one time. According to BARTA, racks are available on a first- come, first-served basis and bikes are not allowed on the in-side of BARTA buses.

All bikes 16” or larger fit easily and securely on the rack, even children’s bikes. All bikes load in exactly the same way, quickly and easily.

BARTA bicycle racks accommodate most 2-wheeled bicycles. Motorized bikes, tricycles or tripeds are not accommodated. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

BARTA’s current policy is that there is no charge for a bike, just the fare for the passenger. During Bike to Work Week, May 15th through May 20th, if a customer has a bike with them, they may ride free.
