BARTA Plans Return to Regular Schedules, Proposes Fare Increase

Berks Area Regional Transportation Authority announced Thursday that bus services will return to normal schedules beginning Monday, October 19, 2020. Masks are still required to ride.

In addition, the South Central Transit Authority is planning to propose changes for BARTA bus fares at the September Board Meeting. If proposed changes are approved, the effective date would be Monday, January 4, 2021.

Under the proposal, SCTA is proposing to eliminate zones. SCTA is also proposing to adjust pass prices for better customer savings when customers purchase prepaid passes. View the detailed fare proposal here.

SCTA will also propose a minor route and schedule change at the September Board Meeting. Proposed route and schedule changes can be viewed here.

A public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, 2020 from 4-6pm at the BARTA Administrative Offices, 1700 North 11th Street in Reading to receive any comments.
