The City of Reading has announced that the westbound lane of Penn Street between 4th and 5th Streets will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from Monday, March 3, through Friday, March 14, due to ongoing demolition work.
According to city officials, the demolition involves the removal of the roof and ductwork at 431 Penn Street. The closure will be in effect at all times, including overnight hours, while the eastbound lane of Penn Street will remain open.
Motorists traveling west on Penn Street will be detoured by turning right onto 5th Street, then left onto Washington Street, and finally left onto 4th Street to return to Penn Street. Drivers are encouraged to plan for additional travel time and to exercise caution while navigating the detour.
