Early Sunday morning, heavy rain caused a sinkhole to open up in the area where the sign structure is embedded in the ground.

Both the south and north bound lanes are closed between the Laureldale Exit and Route 61. The highway will remain closed until Monday, according to Berks County Department of Emergency Services.

To travel around the area, use Snyder Road and turn right onto Route 61. You can also use West Huller Road to Leesport Road as well.
