PennDOT Issues Vehicle Restrictions on 78, 422, 222 Highways

Due to the severity of the winter storm, PennDOT has issued temporary restrictions on certain vehicles on highways in east central Pennsylvania.

As of 9:30pm, all eastbound and westbound miles of Interstate 78 have been restricted to Level 3 of the commonwealth’s weather event vehicle plan.

On roadways with Level 3 restrictions in place, no commercial vehicles are permitted EXCEPT loaded single trailers with chains or approved Alternate Traction Devices.

Additionally, all school buses, commercial buses, motor coaches, motorcycles, RVs/motorhomes and passenger vehicles (cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers are not permitted on affected roadways while restrictions are in place.

Speed limits have also been restricted to 45 mph on US 209, US 222, PA 309, and US 422.

Commercial vehicles not affected by restrictions must move to the right lane. Additional speed restrictions on other highways could be added depending on changing conditions.
