The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the start of a public comment period for a planned bridge replacement project on US 422 (Penn Avenue) over Cacoosing Creek in Sinking Spring Borough.
The project, currently in the design phase, involves replacing the existing bridge, which was originally built in 1934. The structure, a single-span, reinforced concrete T-beam bridge, is nearing the end of its useful life. PennDOT plans to replace it with a modern structure that meets current design and safety standards, ensuring continued safe travel along this key route.
Construction is estimated to begin in 2027, following a planned bid for construction in the spring of 2026. The total estimated cost for the project is $2.5 million, with construction expected to take place in phases.
As part of its public outreach, PennDOT is hosting a virtual plans display from April 23 through May 23, 2025. During this period, community members, local businesses, and property owners are encouraged to review the project details and submit comments or concerns. The purpose of the display is to introduce the project to the public and gather input from those who may be affected.
PennDOT will provide project materials in alternative languages or formats upon request and offers translation or interpretation services for those with special needs. Individuals or groups interested in reviewing the project or submitting questions can contact PennDOT Consultant Project Manager Stefan Eskesen, P.E., at (610) 417-0661 or via email at c-seskesen@pa.gov.
