Philadelphia driver arrested after leaving scene of deadly crash on I-78

Pennsylvania State Police have released details of a fatal accident that took place on I-78 westbound in Greenwich Township Friday, August 23, at 4:54 PM.

According to a public information release report, the incident occurred as the victim, identified as 49-year-old Jymel Dejuan Smith of Clermont, Florida, stopped his tractor trailer on the right-hand shoulder of I-78 westbound in the area of mile marker 41.5 in Greenwich Township, and exited his vehicle.

While outside of his vehicle, the victim was struck by a passing motorist. Police say the passing motorist failed to stop at the scene or notify law enforcement of his involvment in the crash.

The striking vehicle was located by troopers away from the scene and the driver of the striking vehicle, identified as 42-year-old Akhmadkhon V. Ubaykhonov of Philadelphia, was taken into custody for leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
