Pickup truck crashes into City of Reading highway welcome sign

A pickup truck traveling westbound on 422 crashed into the City of Reading welcome sign Wednesday evening.

No injuries were initially reported in the accident and authorities say the driver was cited for careless driving.

Located in the cloverleaf of the highway on-ramp in West Reading, the sign pays tribute to the city’s history by using the font and signature green and yellow color of the Reading Railroad.

As of Friday, crews removed the remaining letters of the sign and light fixtures.

The saga continues. POL-E, a sculpture by Tyler Ernst and mascot of the Reading-Berks Hotdog Society was placed in the cloverleaf Sunday morning.
