A fatal two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Penn Avenue (SR 422) and Big Spring Road in Heidelberg Township on Thursday afternoon, August 29, 2024. The South Heidelberg Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 4:35 PM.
The crash, which took place in the eastbound lane of Penn Avenue, resulted in the death of one male driver. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased is currently being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash was transported to a local hospital. Police report him to be in stable condition.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the South Heidelberg Police Department at 610.670.9885.
SHPD is receiving assistance in the ongoing investigation from the Pennsylvania State Police. The response to the accident included support from several local emergency services, including the Lower Heidelberg Police Department, Western Berks Fire Company, Robesonia Fire Company, Western Berks Ambulance, and numerous fire police officers from across Berks County.
The SHPD also expressed gratitude to the staff and doctors at Penn State Health Medical Group – Robesonia Family Medicine for their assistance in treating the injured.
