Train Hauling Trash Derails in Wyomissing

Around 9pm on Tuesday, April 16th, a Norfolk Southern train hauling trash derailed in Wyomissing, PA just behind the Wyomissing Restaurant and Bakery. As one of Norfolk Southern’s primary rail line connecting Harrisburg to Philadelphia, emergency crews acted quickly to clean up the mess and repair the rail line.

Six train cars derailed off the track, each holding 2 dumpster style trash containers. Crews used heavy machinery to remove the trash and twisted rail cars. The train was on its way traveling from New Jersey to with its final destination in Ohio.

Once the trash was cleared from the tracks, Norfolk Southern crews began to replace the rail line. By Wednesday afternoon a single track was cleared enough for trains to continue through.
