Unable to find new location, Berks Book Bonanza Committee cancels 2023 sale

The Berks Book Bonanza Committee has announced that there will not be a sale in 2023. Organizers say they are optimistic that a sale will be held in 2024.

After searching for the better part of a year, members of the Berks Book Bonanza search committee were unable to locate a suitable space that would serve as both a collection and sale site for 2023.

“We’re asking everyone to remain patient for just a little longer,” said Judy Ellsworth, member of the Book Bonanza Executive Committee. “We know what the sale means to our fellow book enthusiasts, but we want to come prepared that any potential sale lives up to the expectation of what represents a Berks Book Bonanza sale.”

The currently-homeless sale has searched far and wide across the county over several years after leaving the VF Outlets following their 2017 sale. Berks Book Bonanza was able to hold several sales at the Berkshire Mall during this time, including their most profitable sale to date in 2021, but members of the search committee continued to look for a more permanent placement all the while.

While there is no set date for next year’s sale and collection period, more information will be announced on the Book Bonanza website berksbookbonanza.org and on Facebook at the Friends of Berks County Public Libraries and AAUW Reading Branch pages.
