Berks under Flood Watch Saturday through Sunday, heavy rainfall expected across region

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch from 1:00 PM Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening at 7:00 PM. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

Areas included in the Flood Watch include portions of northern New Jersey, including the following areas, Sussex and Warren and Pennsylvania, including the following areas, Berks, Carbon, Eastern Chester, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, Upper Bucks, Western Chester and Western Montgomery.

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood prone locations. Creeks and streams are running high and may rise out of their banks and could flood with more heavy rain. Flooding may also occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

A low pressure system will bring rain, heavy at times, Saturday afternoon through Saturday night. Another 1 to 2 inches of rainfall is forecast within the Flood Watch area in addition to the multiple rounds of rainfall we’ve already had over the past week. Urban flooding will also be a threat around the Philadelphia metro area as the heaviest rain moves through late day Saturday into Saturday night.

Be sure to monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
