The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Berks County, in effect from Monday afternoon through Monday evening, as forecasters warn of the potential for flash flooding caused by heavy rainfall.
Slow-moving showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Monday afternoon, bringing the risk of downpours that could overwhelm small creeks, streams, and flood-prone areas. The watch is part of a broader alert covering several counties in eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, but local officials are urging Berks County residents to stay especially alert given recent rain and already saturated ground in some areas.
According to the NWS, excessive runoff may result in flooding in low-lying areas, roadways with poor drainage, and along small waterways.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates throughout the day and be prepared to take action should a Flash Flood Warning be issued.
