A Freeze Warning is in effect for Berks County and surrounding areas from midnight Tuesday through 9 a.m. Wednesday, with a second round of freezing temperatures possible later this week, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters say overnight lows are expected to fall between 25 and 30 degrees, creating conditions cold enough to damage or kill sensitive vegetation.
In addition, a Freeze Watch has been issued from Wednesday evening through Thursday morning, when temperatures are expected to dip between 27 and 31 degrees. Frost development is also possible during that time.
The alerts cover Berks County as well as Delaware, Chester, Montgomery, Bucks, and Philadelphia counties.
The National Weather Service warns that the cold conditions could harm crops, gardens, and other sensitive plants. Unprotected outdoor plumbing may also be at risk of damage.
Residents are encouraged to take precautions, including covering or bringing in plants and protecting outdoor pipes ahead of the freezing temperatures.
