Lonnie Walker IV Foundation Distributes Thanksgiving Meals to Local Nonprofits

In the spirit of giving, the Lonnie Walker IV Foundation distributed over 200 Thanksgiving meals to local nonprofits Thursday night in front of the Geigle Complex at Reading High School.

Last year, hundreds of people lined up at the DoubleTree Hotel in Reading to see Lonnie Walker IV and receive a frozen turkey. Due to COVID-19, foundation officials thought it was best to provide meals to local nonprofits directly, instead of having community members line up for meals.

Five local nonprofits and churches were chosen to be the recipients, including Zion Baptist Church, CityReach, Olivet Boys and Girls Club, and Safe Berks. In total, the foundation provided enough food for 200+ families.

Families will receive a frozen turkey provided by Shady Maples Smorgasbord, and assorted sides by Redner’s.

Reading native and NBA Spurs player, Lonnie Walker IV, established the foundation in 2019 to positively impact youth and families in Reading and in San Antonio.

Through his Foundation, Walkers plans to not only donate money, but also his time to show and instill in these communities that anyone can live out their dreams by continuing to always work hard, and never give up.

In July of 2019, the foundation held its first LWIV Basketball camp, that was made available free of charge to approximately 250 kids in Reading.
