United Way of Berks County receives special gift from Carpenter Technology Group

United Way of Berks County announced it was a recipient of a special gift from Carpenter Technology’s Hot Strip Mill (HSM) Commissioning Team at its Reading, PA facility through the company’s annual Impact Awards.

The Impact Awards honor teams from across the Company who have accomplished notable achievements in Safety, Operational Excellence, Strategic Marketing, Talent Engagement, Technology Development.

The program also benefits the communities where Carpenter Technology operates, as all finalists select local charities of their choice as donation recipients. This year’s event resulted in $110,000 being donated to 14 charities. The 2022 Ultimate Winner was Reading’s HSM team, which selected United Way of Berks County as recipient of its $20,000 donation.

The HSM team is comprised of: Dan Turner (Captain), Supervisor – HSM, Reading; Benjamin Petsu, Manufacturing Engineer, Dorian Rynard, Maintenance Technician Planner, Christian Schlegel, HSM Specialist, and Patrick Stockhausen, Senior Technology Metallurgist – all of Reading.

“Four years ago we announced a $100 million investment for a new precision strip hot rolling mill at our Reading facility, that reflects our commitment to customers, our employees, and the greater Reading community,” said Tony Thene, Carpenter Technology’s President and CEO.

“The successful commissioning of this mill is a direct result of the outstanding execution and dedication of our Reading team. We are honored to recognize their achievements through our Impact Awards and by supporting the United Way of Berks County through this direct donation and our annual giving campaign.”

The special gift will support United Way’s 2022 campaign and will be invested in programming to help people in Berks County. Each year, more than 150,000 Berks Countians are helped through United Way funding.

“The generosity of Carpenter Technology and its HSM team will improve lives in our community by providing help and hope to individuals and families served by United Way’s 80-plus funded programs,” shared Tammy White, President of United Way of Berks County.
