Lancaster County man dies days after two-vehicle crash in Brecknock Township

An 84-year-old Lancaster County man has died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash last week in Brecknock Township, Lancaster County, according to the Berks County Coroner’s Office.

Berks County Coroner Matthew J. Stitzel said the crash occurred Tuesday, July 7, at approximately 5:36 p.m. at the intersection of Dry Tavern Road (Route 897) and Lauschtown Road.

According to the investigation, Robert W. McGuire, 84, of the 200 block of Spruce Street in Brecknock Township, was traveling south on Dry Tavern Road and attempted to turn east onto Lauschtown Road. Investigators determined his vehicle failed to yield to an oncoming northbound vehicle and was struck head-on.

McGuire was transported from the scene by Fivepointville EMS to Reading Hospital, where he remained under medical care until he died on Saturday, July 11, at 9:26 p.m.

The Berks County Coroner’s Office identified McGuire on Monday.

The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma, and the manner of death was ruled accidental.

The Pennsylvania State Police in Lancaster County assisted the Berks County Coroner’s Office with the investigation.
