BARTA offers free rides to bicyclists during National Bike to Work Week

BARTA is offering free rides for passengers traveling “multi-modal” when they bring their bike onboard the bus for any part of their trip starting Monday, May 16 through Friday, May 20, 2022 as part of recognizing National Bike to Work Week.

To support inter-modal transportation and National Bike to Work Week, BARTA encourages residents of Berks County to attempt combining biking and public transit as an option for daily commuting.

BARTA’s bus fleet has bike racks located on the front of the vehicle for customers to use. The bike racks can carry two bikes at one time. Normally, passengers who board BARTA buses with a bike must pay the regular adult fare. During National Bike to Work Week, their ride will be free.

According to BARTA, racks are available on a first- come, first-served basis and bikes are not allowed on the in-side of BARTA buses.

All bikes 16” or larger fit easily and securely on the rack, even children’s bikes. All bikes load in exactly the same way, quickly and easily.

BARTA bicycle racks accommodate most 2-wheeled bicycles. Motorized bikes, tricycles or tripeds are not accommodated. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
