Eastern Berks police officer involved in crash while responding to accident on Route 100

Traffic came to a standstill on Route 100 Wednesday midday following a motor vehicle accident that downed a utility pole. The accident happened around 11:40am in the 500 block of North Route 100 in Colebrookdale Township.

According to the Eastern Berks Regional Police Department, the crash involved one vehicle traveling north that left the roadway and struck a utility pole and parked car in the lot of Quigley Dodge. The driver was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Route 100 was closed for several hours while the utility pole was replaced.

While responding to the scene, an EBRPD patrol vehicle was involved in a crash with a motorist who was waiting in traffic due to the abovementioned accident.

As a result of that crash, the officer was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The Douglass Township Police Department (Montgomery County) was requested to assist in investigating the patrol vehicle accident.
