Motorcyclist dies in crash with SUV Thursday evening in Heidelberg Township

A 21-year-old motorcyclist is dead after colliding with an SUV in Heidelberg Township, on Thursday evening, October 27, 2022, according to South Heidelberg Township Police Department.

First responders were dispatched to the area of Penn Avenue/422 and Hill Road in Heidelberg Township around 5:32pm for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV, with the motorcycle operator down.

Upon arrival, Officers found the motorcycle operator, a 21-year-old male from Marion Township, Berks County, deceased. The Operator of the SUV, a 53-year-old female from Heidelberg Township, was uninjured.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the motorcycle was traveling East on Penn Avenue/422, and collided with a white Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was turning left from the left turn lane on Penn Avenue onto Hill Road. The motorcycle struck the Jeep on the rear passenger side, and the operator of the motorcycle was thrown from the bike onto the roadway. He was wearing a helmet.

The South Heidelberg Township Police Department, which provides police service to Heidelberg Township, was assisted at the scene by the Pennsylvania State Police crash reconstruction team.

The South Heidelberg Township Police Department was also assisted at the scene by the Robesonia and Womelsdorf Fire Departments, Fire Police from both Departments, Fire Police from the Western Berks and Township of Spring Fire Companies, the Berks County Coroner’s office, and Paramedics from Western Berks Ambulance.
