Motorcyclist seen traveling at ‘high rate of speed’ killed in crash in Northern Berks

A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with another vehicle Tuesday night on Pottsville Pike (Route 61) in Ontelaunee Township.

According to the Northern Berks Regional Police Department, officers observed several motorcycles travelling at a high rate of speed around 10:15pm traveling south on Route 61.

When an officer attempted to stop the motorcycles in the area of Routes 73 and 61, they quickly took off. Due to the high rate of speed at which the motorcycles were travelling, the department says the officers did not attempt to pursue.

A few minutes later, officers located a crash at the intersection of Route 61 and Cross Keys Road. Police say a motorcycle driving at a high rate of speed collided into a sedan that had stopped for the red light.
