New York woman killed following car, tractor-trailer crash on I-78 in Bethel Twp

Westbound I-78 was closed for roughly four hours Tuesday evening in Bethel Township following a crash that killed a New York woman, and injured several others.

The accident happened at 4:50pm, at mile marker 8.5 on the highway, traffic was being detoured ahead at the Fredericksburg Exit due to an accident in Lebanon County.

According to PA State Police, the accident involved two vehicles, a passenger car and tractor trailer. The car was in the right lane traveling at an “unsafe speed” when it struck the back of the tractor trailer.

The driver of the passenger car and two children in the rear seats were transported to Reading Hospital with serious injuries. The children were assisted out of the vehicle, driver exited on his own.

KellyAnn Mooney, 40, of Blue Point, New York, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Berks County Coroner’s office.

The driver of the tractor trailer was transported to Hershey Medical Center for unspecified injuries.

Police say all the occupants of the passenger vehicle were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
