PennDOT maintenance forces and private contractors are consistently working on roads in Berks County. To help our readers avoid travel delays, here are a few of the most notable roadwork projects scheduled next week.
PennDOT contractors will repair the median barrier on US 222 between Broadcasting Road and PA 12 in the City of Reading and Wyomissing. A lane restriction is expected and my cause significant travel delays. Road work is set to begin January 7th at 10pm, and end at 5am January 8th.
PennDOT contractors are scheduled to perform general construction on I78 between Exit 23 (Shartlesville) and Exit 30 (Hamburg). An Eastbound lane restriction for barrier work is planned for the project beginning January 4-7, from 7pm to 6am.
PennDOT Maintenance Forces will be performing brush cutting on Business Route 222/ 5th Street Highway between Pike Street and Crescent Avenue in Muhlenberg Township and City of Reading. A lane restriction is planned for the project. Expect delays and use caution driving through the work zone. Brush cutting is scheduled to begin January 4th from 7am to 3pm.

PennDOT Maintenance Forces are scheduled to perform crack sealing on Hampden Boulevard between 13th Street and the Muhlenberg Township line in the City of Reading. A temporary lane will be in place during the project. Crack sealing will begin January 4-6 from 7am to 3pm.
PennDOT Maintenance Forces will be performing crack sealing on Chestnut Street between Business Route 222/5th Street and Buisness Route 422/Perkiomen Avenue in the City of Reading. A lane restriction will begin January 7-8 from 7am to 3pm.
PennDOT Maintenance Forces will be performing crack sealing on State Hill Road between US 222 and Van Reed Road in Spring Township. A lane restrictions is scheduled for January 6-8 from 7am to 3pm. Expect delays and use caution driving through the work zone. Rain may cause delays to this project.
