Reading opening downtown garages for free parking during snowstorm

Reading Parking Authority announced Friday that its garages will be open to provide parking relief to City residents during the forecasted snowfall and resulting clean-up period.

Parking at Reading Parking Authority garages is free to City residents from 8am on Sunday, January 16, 2022 through 8am on Tuesday, January 18.

City residents are encouraged to move their vehicles to a garage so snowplows can clean the streets as effectively as possible.

Reading Parking Authority is also clearing snow downtown to make the area accessible to residents and patrons at local businesses.

All metered parking spaces within the area will be designated as “No Parking” during that time. Meters will be clearly marked with “No Parking” signs that state the restriction dates and times.

Residents utilizing an RPA parking garage during the designated hours must pull a ticket to enter. They are advised to keep that ticket in a safe place where they can access it when exiting if necessary.

Exit gates will be up until 8am on Tuesday, January 18, and parkers can exit without payment if they exit prior to that time.

After 8am on Tuesday, exit gates will be down. Payment will be required to exit, and parkers will need the ticket pulled when entering.

“No Parking” signs posted for downtown snow removal will be taken down after the area has been cleared and treated as necessary. Residents, business owners, and visitors may begin using metered spaces after the signs have been removed. Meter enforcement will resume at 8am on Tuesday.
