Reading Parking Authority Extends Free Garage Parking

Reading Parking Authority has extended its offer of free garage parking for City residents to ease ongoing parking congestion caused by Thursday’s snowstorm.

Gates at all Reading Parking Authority garages will now remain open through 8am on Monday, January 4, 2021.

Reading Parking Authority was already scheduled to offer free parking for City residents during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

However, the need for parking relief due to the uncharacteristic December snow accumulation will result in nearly three weeks free of garage parking for residents.

City residents are encouraged to park their vehicles in a garage to minimize over-crowding on neighborhood streets, which often creates hazardous conditions.

For example, parking too close to corners makes it difficult for drivers to safely enter intersections—sightlines are often blocked or drivers are forced to make extremely wide turns that cross into opposing traffic lanes.

Those households with multiples cars are especially encouraged to take advantage of garage parking.

Anyone utilizing an RPA garage while entrance gates are up is still asked to pull a ticket to enter.

After 8am on January 4, gates will be down. Payment using the ticket pulled on entrance will be required to exit.
