Security Guard injured after shooting at downtown Reading bar

The Reading Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place early Sunday morning in downtown Reading, leaving one person injured.

On October 9, 2022, around 2:30am, a man showed up to Reading Hospital with a gunshot wound, identifying himself as security at a bar in downtown Reading.

According to police, the victim says he was shot in the back by an unknown person as he was getting into his car.

While driving himself to the hospital, he crashed his car in West Reading near the intersection of 5th and Spruce Street and walked the rest of the way to the hospital.

Investigators say the possible actor may be an individual the victim threw out of the bar earlier.

The shooting took place in the parking lot of the Italian Garden located at 851 Penn Street in the City of Reading.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
