Wyomissing to kick off holiday season with Lighting of the Greens and Marketplace

Wyomissing’s holiday season will officially begin next month as the Borough hosts its annual Lighting of the Greens & Holiday Marketplace on Saturday, December 6, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Stone House lawn and pond area. A rain date is set for Sunday, December 7.

Now in its 36th year, the event has become a hallmark of the community’s seasonal celebrations, drawing families for an afternoon of activities, performances, and the much-anticipated lighting ceremony that signals the start of local holiday decorating.

This year’s festivities will include children’s crafts and activities, a petting zoo with goats, sheep, rabbits, and other animals, as well as seasonal food offerings from local vendors. Visitors can also explore the Holiday Marketplace, where artisans will offer handmade gifts, ornaments, and other items for the upcoming season of giving.

Entertainment will be provided by the Wyomissing Band and a Holiday DJ, offering a mix of live music and festive tunes throughout the afternoon. Inside the Stone House, families will find Santa ready to greet children and listen to holiday wishes among the decorated trees.

At 5 p.m., the community will gather for the official lighting of the greens, a moment residents often look forward to before illuminating their own homes for the season.

“The Lighting of the Greens has become a wonderful Wyomissing tradition,” Mayor Fred Levering said. “It’s not just about lighting trees—it’s about lighting up our community spirit and celebrating what makes Wyomissing such a special place to call home.”

Randy McKinley, Director of Recreation, said the event captures the magic of the season. “There’s nothing quite like seeing a child’s face light up as they climb onto Santa’s knee and whisper their Christmas wish,” he said. “When the lights come on and the caroling fills the air, you can truly feel what this season is all about.”

For updates, residents are encouraged to follow the Borough of Wyomissing Parks & Recreation social media pages.
