Cumru Township police are investigating the deaths of two individuals found inside a home Tuesday following a welfare check request from family members.
According to the Cumru Township Police Department, officers were dispatched March 17 to a private residence in the 500 block of Church Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered both residents of the home deceased.
The Berks County Coroner’s Office has identified the individuals as 66-year-old Karl F. Kopil, the homeowner, and 65-year-old Theresa G. Grube, an occupant of the residence. The two were found by the male’s family members on the evening of March 17.
Authorities said two dogs were also found deceased inside the home.
Cumru Township Police Detectives, along with the Berks County District Attorney’s Forensic Services Unit, responded to the scene to begin a comprehensive investigation.
According to the coroner, all four were victims of gunshot wounds. Autopsies were performed Thursday at Reading Hospital by Dr. Neil Hoffman. The cause of death for both individuals was determined to be gunshot wounds, while the manner of death remains pending further investigation.
Police have said there is no indication of a threat to the community at this time, and no suspects are being sought.
The investigation remains ongoing.
