The City of Reading is recognizing National Police Week by honoring the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers both locally and across the country.
As part of the observance, Reading City Hall, the Penn Street Bridge, and the Pagoda were scheduled to be illuminated in blue Friday evening in recognition of National Police Week. The city also noted that Friday, May 15, 2026, is recognized nationally as Peace Officers Memorial Day, with United States flags flying at half-staff on City of Reading properties.
Mayor Eddie Morán said National Police Week serves as an opportunity to recognize the work officers perform each day in the community.
“We’re grateful for the dedication and service of the men and women of the Reading Police Department,” Morán said. “This week is about honoring those who continue to serve and remembering the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.”
Reading Police Chief Javier Ruiz said the observance also highlights the responsibilities carried by officers daily.
“It’s an honor to serve this community alongside the dedicated officers of the Reading Police Department,” Ruiz said. “National Police Week gives us the opportunity to remember fallen officers and recognize the commitment of those who continue to serve our residents every day.”
National Police Week is observed annually throughout the United States to honor fallen law enforcement officers and recognize the service of officers nationwide.
