Downtown Reading will once again serve as the starting point for the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum’s annual World War II Weekend with the return of the World War II Mid-Day Parade on Friday, June 5.
Organized by Downtown Reading in partnership with the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum, the parade is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Penn Street. The event serves as the official kickoff to the museum’s 35th Annual World War II Weekend, which runs June 5-7 at Reading Regional Airport.
The annual parade will transform downtown Reading into a living history display featuring World War II reenactors, historic military vehicles, and live music. Organizers said attendees can expect reenactors dressed in authentic period uniforms, military vehicles from the era, and a performance by the Snack Club Quartet.
Local officials and representatives from the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum are also expected to offer remarks during the event.
Food will be available for purchase from local businesses and the Agave Food Truck.
Following the parade, attendees can continue the World War II Weekend festivities with a special screening of the film Blue Angels at Reading Movies 11 & IMAX. The showing will take place in the theater’s renovated IMAX auditorium. Tickets are $1 and are available online, with an additional service fee, or at the theater box office without a service fee.
Free parking for parade attendees will be available at the 4th & Cherry Garage, located at 29 S. Fourth St.
The World War II Mid-Day Parade is free and open to the public. The event takes place Friday, June 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Penn Street in downtown Reading.
