The Oley Valley Fair is officially in full swing! This year, it is celebrating its 75th anniversary. This event has been a unique event throughout the entire community. It brings people together from all different backgrounds. Every year, other volunteers, exhibitors, and competitors help to bring this event to life.
There is a wide variety of different produce, animals, art, music, and much more that is involved! Kristen Stup, the fair’s publicity chairman, explained the importance of the fair, and how the event impacts Oley Valley.
“It’s sort of like everybody’s reunion. It’s the time of year when everyone is brought back together. Even new people who are experiencing it for the first time. It’s great to see everyone in the community.”
One of the most prominent things about the fair is the animals. Different farms come out and show their livestock. Each farm has something unique that they bring. It allows the community to see the people we get a lot of our food from. It’s important to know who locally is providing for the community.
“This is a large farming community. If you’re not a farmer, you’re friends with a farmer. It’s a place where everyone can showcase what they’ve been doing all year” said Stup.
The fair is well known for its famous hamburgers and French fries, but everything they have is homemade and made fresh—courtesy of a handful of local churches that help prepare the food. Without the help of volunteers, local students, and different organizations, the event wouldn’t be as successful as it is. Seeing what locals bring to the fair is incredible to see because everyone brings something unique.
“It’s a small area, so you can walk around and see all that we have. You definitely have to get a milkshake, and fries, but don’t let the lines fool you! They go by very quickly. Make sure you check out all of the exhibits” said Stup.
From the tractor pulls, pumpkin contests, and animal judging, to line dancing, the Oley Valley fair is the most exciting event of the season! Every year, thousands of people from all over the county come to see what it’s all about. This fair will leave a lasting impression, creating memories that’ll last a lifetime.
