Berks natives Cody Tyler & Gypsy Convoy win big at 4th Annual Central Pennsylvania Music Awards

Country-rockers win Album of the Year and Best Country Band.

Cody Tyler & Gypsy Convoy, a four-piece country-rock outfit based in Shillington, won Album of the Year and Best Country Band at the Hershey Theatre on Thursday night, March 30th, 2023.

Their awards come on the heels of the release of their debut album, Stare Your Demons Down, in May 2022. Tyler, a Shillington native, a 2013 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School, and a 2017 graduate of Millersville University, said he is “incredibly thrilled and humbled” to have even been nominated for an award in the first place.

The Central Pennsylvania Music Awards (CPMA’s) are part of the Central Pennsylvania Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony, held at the Hershey Theatre in Hershey, PA.

The ceremony has been dubbed “our local music scene’s biggest night.” Tyler and the band were nominated for four CPMA’s: Album of the Year, Best Songwriter, Best Male Vocalist, and Best Country Band. “I was just humbled and shocked to be nominated in four categories. After we won Best Country Band, I thought that was it and that someone else would win best album because there is so much incredible talent in this music scene. And many of the nominees in our categories are artists that I revere and look up to. I was totally in shock when they called our name,” Tyler said.

Cody Tyler & Gypsy Convoy is made up of Cody Tyler on guitar and vocals, Kenny Peffley of Sinking Spring on bass and vocals, Lenny Casper of Mount Penn on keys, and Kenneth Mettam of Palo Alto on drums and vocals.

The album features a plethora of guest musicians including Murray Perlstein on harmonica, Ted Russell on pedal steel, and a horn section on one of the ten tracks which features local musicians Jerry Laboranti, Seth Mellon, Todd Fulginiti, and the late David DePalma. Demons was mastered by Grammy-award winning mastering engineer Pete Lyman (Chris Stapleton, Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson) at Infrasonic Mastering in Nashville, TN.

Stare Your Demons Down is available on all major streaming platforms. To order a physical copy of the 2022 Central Pennsylvania Album of the Year, head to CodyTylerMusic.com/shop or visit their merch table at a live show.
