Laughter, love, and broadway magic: Genesius Theatre presents ‘Funny Girl’

Genesius Theatre is set to captivate audiences with its upcoming production of the Broadway classic, “Funny Girl.” The beloved musical, renowned for Barbra Streisand’s iconic portrayal in the 1968 film, takes center stage with a vibrant cast and an eighteen-piece live orchestra.

“Funny Girl” narrates the compelling story of Fanny Brice, an unconventional performer who rises to stardom in the Ziegfeld Follies during the early 20th century. With a spectacular score by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill’s lyrics, the show boasts timeless tunes such as “People,” “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” and “The Music That Makes Me Dance.”

This Genesius production promises a heartfelt and humorous journey as Fanny, portrayed by the talented Cheyenne Malfaro, navigates love, success, and the challenges of a male-dominated entertainment industry. The show’s director, Christopher Sperat, brings his expertise to ensure an unforgettable theatrical experience.

A notable addition to the cast is Vicki Nunis, reprising the role of Mrs. Brice, Fanny’s mother, after playing Fanny herself in 1967. Ms. Nunis’s multi-decade career adds a special touch to this production, connecting past and present in a unique theatrical lineage.

The Genesius and DoubleTree partnership offers patrons a convenient Park/Dinner/Shuttle/Show/Shuttle-Program, enhancing the overall theater experience. Free parking at DoubleTree, pre-show dinner reservations, and shuttle services create a seamless outing for theater enthusiasts.
