Thousands of families gathered on the 500 block of Penn Street in downtown Reading Wednesday evening for the city’s inaugural “Halloween on Penn” event, providing kids a chance to get into the Halloween spirit by wearing costumes and enjoy a night out.
“Searching and brainstorming ideas to bring the community together, we came up with Halloween on Penn; a safe, fun, and memorable event for families, adults and children,” said Mayor Morán.
The block party style event offered kids an opportunity to collect candy, enjoy crafting activities, and show off their costumes. The event also hosted several information booths regarding afterschool programs, family oriented organizations, athletic and artistic groups, and employment opportunities.
In addition, the Mayor announced that he has designated October 31st from 5-8 pm for trick-or-treating on Halloween night.
The Mayor is encouraging the community to make it as safe as possible for the children by following the latest CDC guidelines.
“I encourage every family to celebrate Halloween safely, support the various events happening throughout the City and provide the kids with the environment to create a happy unforgettable memory of this day.”
Those distributing candy for trick-or-treaters are asked to turn ON their porch lights to make it easier to identify participants.
