Victim in serious condition after shooting incident unfolds outside bar in downtown Reading

The Reading Police Department Criminal Investigations Division has provided an update on the shooting incident that occurred on the night of November 2, 2023. At approximately 11:45 PM, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Penn Street in response to reports of shots fired.

While en route to the scene, the police received information that a gunshot victim had arrived to Reading Hospital. Authorities say the victim is a 28-year-old male that suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. The victim is currently listed in serious condition and receiving medical treatment.

Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation suggest that the incident was triggered by an altercation inside DeCarlo’s Bar. Following the dispute, police say the situation escalated, resulting in gunfire outside the bar after those involved were removed.

As of now, law enforcement authorities have not yet identified the suspect(s) responsible for the shooting. The Reading Police Department is actively working to gather information and piece together the events leading up to the incident.
