John Paul II Center for Special Learning (JPII) has announced that Kaylee Simcik has been named its new principal. A resident of Mt. Penn, Mrs. Simcik is currently the multi-disabilities classroom teacher. She replaces John Funk and Shelly Kreska who shared the principal role this school year as they continued their teaching duties.
For the past three years Mrs. Simcik has taught at JPII, most recently in the multi-disabilities’ classroom. Prior to that she worked at the Elwyn Davidson School in Media and with L’Arche Mobile. She earned her BS in Education and Master of Education in Special Education from Temple University.
As the principal, Mrs. Simcik will oversee the school-age program for children (pre-K through 21 years of age) and an adult program for individuals over 21 years of age with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She is the chief administrator of the center, responsible for overseeing curriculum, enrollment, development, facilities, and finance as well as implementing policing and planning goals for the center.
In addition, she will oversee the center’s state-licensed adult program and work with JPII’s adult program executive director to ensure state mandates are met, and programming meets the needs of the individuals in the program.
Dr. Michael St. Pierre, Allentown Diocese Superintendent of Schools, noted, “Kaylee Simcik has a heart for Catholic education and the expertise to be the next leader of the John Paul II Center for Special Learning. We are excited for her and for the school’s next chapter in special education.”
Located in Shillington, John Paul II Center for Special Learning encourages children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to explore their purpose and reach for goals through unique special education and social programming.
