U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona visited Reading Area Community College Thursday in a tour stop for his Road to Success Back to School Bus Tour.
The goal of the week-long, multi-state road trip is to showcase the many ways school communities are helping students recover and thrive and putting them on the road to success.
Secretary Cardona began with a tour of RACC classrooms and later spoke to students about ways the school has been able to meet their basic needs throughout the pandemic.
“What an experience. This was fuel for the soul to hear how the Keys Program here is providing opportunities for students and helping these students see” said Secretary Cardona.
“I’d love to see programs like this across our country. This program is very well developed and it’s one of the students told me on the side, he said caring people are the reason why this works, and I felt that, I saw it. The programs works when you have caring people and that’s what we have here. President Looney and and her team, I’m really proud of the program. I want to see more of this.”
Just before leaving, Secretary Cardona attended a Hispanic Heritage Month kickoff party held by the college at Weitz Hall.
