2-Alarm blaze in Amity Township damages garage

Multiple fire company’s responded to a two-alarm garage fire in Amity Township Monday evening, causing traffic problems for drivers on 422.

Reported around 6pm near the intersection of 422 (Benjamin Franklin Highway) and Limekiln Road, firefighters from around the area, including Exeter Township, Birdsboro, Boyertown, responded for mutual aid after flames broke out in the detached garage.

422 was closed for about an hour as crews laid a fire hose across the highway.

Crews remained on the scene for about an hour and a half overhauling and extinguishing hot spots.

No injuries were initially reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
