Berks Encore seeks volunteers for Meals on Wheels during critical season

Berks Encore has an urgent need for volunteers to help deliver more than 650 meals daily to seniors throughout Berks County through the Meals on Wheels program.

With cold and flu season upon us in Berks County, there is a shortage of volunteer drivers and delivery runners, especially in Reading. Delivery routes take 1 – 1.5 hours to complete and meals are delivered before noon Monday through Friday.

Volunteers can commit to helping once per week, twice per month or as often as they are available. Local companies are encouraged to sponsor a delivery route by giving their employees the opportunity to volunteer their time during the workday to assist.

Friendly visitor volunteers are also urgently needed to visit with a homebound senior for an hour each week. The holiday season can be especially difficult for isolated older adults who could greatly benefit from time with a friend. Volunteers and clients have built lasting friendships through the Friendly Visitors Program. Volunteers can make a difference in their own lives and the life of a new friend.

Individuals and companies interested in learning more about volunteer opportunities should contact Michelle Goodhart, Volunteer Coordinator at Berks Encore 610-374-3195 ex. 225.
