Centro Hispano to host free community event for World Hunger Day in Reading

Centro Hispano will commemorate World Hunger Day with a free community event aimed at promoting healthy eating habits and supporting local food security. The event will take place on Wednesday, May 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Casa Senior Center, located at 25 N. 2nd Street in Reading.

Attendees will enjoy a complimentary lunch served by Berks Centro Kitchen, with additional take-home meal boxes available for those interested. In collaboration with The Food Trust, local farms and orchards will set up stands offering fresh fruits and vegetables for sale, highlighting the importance of supporting local growers.

The event will also feature games, raffles, and activities designed to educate the community about the benefits of cooking with fresh, local produce. These efforts align with the 2025 World Hunger Day theme, “Sowing Resilience,” which emphasizes building stronger, more self-sufficient communities through local food systems.
