The City of Reading will join communities across the country in paying tribute to fallen firefighters by participating in the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s (NFFF) “Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters” campaign from April 27 through May 4, 2025.
As part of the nationwide observance leading up to National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, several landmarks throughout the city will be illuminated in red to honor the men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty. Locations set to participate include all six Reading Fire Stations, the William Penn Memorial Fire Tower, City Hall, 5th and Penn, and the Penn Street Bridge.
“Lighting our city in red is a powerful gesture of remembrance. It’s our way of honoring the firefighters who gave everything in service to others,” said Mayor Eddie Morán. “We stand with their families, their fellow firefighters, and every community that has felt the weight of such a loss. Reading remembers — and we will never forget.”
Reading Fire Chief James Stoudt Jr. added, “This week is about honoring lives dedicated to service and sacrifice. Every red light we see is a tribute to someone who ran toward danger when others ran away. We carry their memory with us every day, and this is one way we can show our continued respect and gratitude.”
Residents and businesses are encouraged to participate in the tribute by displaying red lights or ribbons at their homes or storefronts during the week-long observance.
