1 dead, 1 injured in Northwest Reading ‘domestic’ shooting, police say

Update: On February 14, 2023 the following charges were filed against Melvin Ojeda- Rodriguez, relative to his arrest in the homicide and shooting that occurred at 428 West Windsor Street in the City of Reading. 1st Degree Murder, 2nd Degree Murder, 3rd Degree Murder, Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Burglary, Criminal Trespass, and Possessing an Instrument of Crime. Ojeda-Rodriguez was arraigned on the charges and incarcerated at Berks County Prison.

Original Post: One man is dead and a woman injured after a shooting inside a Northwest Reading apartment Tuesday morning.

Reading Police responded to the 400 block of W. Windsor on February 14, 2023 at approximately 5:50am for the report of a shooting inside a first floor apartment.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers located a 32 year old female who had been shot in the leg and a 23 year old male who had been shot multiple times and was deceased.

The female victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to investigators, the initial investigation indicates that the suspect, Melvin Ojeda-Rodriguez broke into the apartment and shot both victims.

Police say Ojeda-Rodriguez had a previous relationship with the female victim, and this homicide and shooting are considered to be domestic related.

While police where at the incident scene Melvin Ojeda-Rodriguez turned himself in to the desk sergeant at City Hall and was taken into custody without incident.
