12 overdoses, 3 fatal prompt Reading Police to issue public safety alert

Reading Police Chief Richard Tornielli issued a public safety alert Saturday afternoon warning residents the department has seen an increased number of drug-related overdoses, possibly related to individuals using drugs that are laced with Fentanyl.

“There is no way of knowing what substances are mixed into drugs, and individuals may have no idea what they are ingesting” said Tornielli in a press release.

“Today alone, we have responded to 12 overdose calls, three of which were fatalities. We are currently investigating and will release more information as it becomes available.”

Police want to remind the public that if they or someone they know is experiencing symptoms of an overdose, to call 9-1-1 immediately for medical assistance.

Anyone with information relative to these overdose incidents or drug-related activity is asked to call Reading Police at 610-655-6116.
