A 49-year-old Boyertown man has been charged with Burglary and related offenses after police say he broke into a Barto home Thursday afternoon claiming he was looking for his kids.
Pennsylvania State Police Reading station was dispatched to the residence March 4, 2023, at 12:28pm for the report of a burglary in progress in the 100 block of Hillcrest Road in Washington Township.
According to State Police, the homeowner was awoken by a loud crashing sound. He went downstairs when he saw an unknown male standing in his kitchen. He noticed that the rear door glass was shattered. He confronted the male who told him he was looking for his kids. The homeowner told him the kids were upstairs. The male went upstairs for a short time and came back downstairs and said, “there they go they are running back there in the woods”. The male then ran through the broken door and into the woods. The male’s car was located up the driveway with the keys in the ignition.
PSP Reading was assisted by PSP Aviation, Eastern Berks Regional PD and Bally PD. Responding law enforcement began searching the wooded area for the male.
The male was subsequently located about an hour after the initial incident on Huffs Church Road near Dairy Lane in Hereford Township where he was taken into custody.
Police identified the male as Jason Cimino of Boyertown. He was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and trespass by motor vehicle. Cimino was taken to Central Processing where he was arraigned. Bail was set at $25,000. Cimino was unable to post bail and was taken to Berks County prison.
