One Injured in Reading Shooting, Police Arrest Man for Attempted Homicide

A Reading man has been arrested Tuesday due to his involvement in a shooting Saturday evening, May 29, in an apartment building on the 100 block of North 5th Street in downtown Reading.

At approximately 5:50pm, Reading Police were initially called to the 500 block of Walnut Street for a report of a shooting, with one person shot in the abdomen.

Upon arrival to the scene, officers located a victim in an apartment building in the 100 block of North 5th Street, located closer to Washington Street than Walnut.

Investigators say they found two victims at the scene, a man with a single gunshot wound to the chest, and another man with a minor head wound. The victim of the gunshot was transported to the Reading Hospital for treatment for a non-life-threatening injury.

During the course of the investigation, Police say the suspect, identified as 23 year old Jamie Acevedo, went to the apartment where the victims were. While inside the apartment, Acevedo struck the first victim in the head with a firearm and shot the other.

Police did not released any information on a motive.

Authorities have charged Acevedo with Attempted Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Possessing Instrument of a Crime, and related offenses.

Acevedo was taken into custody on June 1st and is awaiting arraignment on charges.
