One security guard dead, one injured in shooting in Southern Berks

Update: Suspect arrested in connection with shooting death of security guard in New Morgan

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after a shooting in Southern Berks County that left one security guard dead, and another injured in New Morgan Borough.

On August 6, 2022, at approximately 12:08am State Police say they received a 911 call from victim #2 that they were hired for security by Pinnacle Transport Company, due to recent Catalytic Converter thefts in the area.

The caller related that they were patrolling a lot located at 235 Quarry Road, and there was a suspicious vehicle on the property. Victim #1 attempted to make contact with the operator of the vehicle and noticed someone hiding inside. The vehicle was described to be a blue Chrysler minivan.

When victim #1 returned to the security van, victim #2 was on the phone with 911. Both victims were then shot by the actor described to be a white male, approximately 6’0 tall, approximately 230lbs, with a reddish-brown beard, and wearing a baseball cap.

The deceased has been identified as 37 year-old Troy Allen Rickenbach. The second victim is a 43 year-old and was transported to the hospital for a gunshot wound to the arm.
