The Berks County District Attorney’s Office has announced the arrest of 60-year-old Daniel R. Kromer of Reading, PA Thursday for dissemination of child pornography and related charges.
In October of 2024, the Berks County Detective’s Office initiated a criminal investigation after receiving a complaint from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (N.C.M.E.C.), involving digital files of suspected Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) that had been uploaded and shared on two occasions utilizing the internet/web application ‘Facebook’ and ‘Facebook Messenger’.
As part of this investigation, investigators identified the Facebook account in question as belonging to the defendant. Investigators learned that the defendant is a lifetime registered sex offender in Pennsylvania. An administrative subpoena was served upon the internet service provider utilized to access this account. This IP address was later linked to the defendants cellular telephone.
Members of the Berks County Detectives executed a search warrant at the defendant’s residence located in the City of Reading. A cellular telephone was seized during the search. According to detectives, the defendant was later interviewed by members of the Berks County Detectives and admitted to utilizing his cellular telephone to possess and share files of CSAM.
As a result of the analysis conducted on the defendant’s cellular telephone by the Berks County District Attorney’s Forensic Services Unit, hundreds of digital images and digital videos of CSAM were located.
On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the Defendant was charged with Sexual Abuse of Children –Dissemination of Child Pornography and Sexual Abuse of Children – Possession of Child Pornography, and Criminal Use of a Communications Facility.
The Defendant surrendered to members of the Berks County Detectives n Thursday, February 27, 2025. The defendant was transported to the Central Processing Center located at the Berks County Courthouse where he will be fingerprinted and photographed.
As in every criminal case, the fact that an arrest occurred or a criminal complaint has been filed is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
