Berks Parks to celebrate Smokey’s 80th Birthday on August 10th

Berks County Parks & Recreation Department will celebrate Smokey the Bear’s 80th Birthday with a free community event on Saturday, August 10th from 10am to 2pm at the Berks County Heritage Center.

Smokey the Bear first appeared on a Forest Fire Prevention campaign poster in 1944 and has been the face of preventing forest fires ever since!

The event will include activities and fun for the whole family rain or shine. Listen to the Smokey story at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm, presented by the Berks County Library System.

Guests can visit the Smokey Coloring Station and enter the kids coloring contest for a chance to win some Smokey Swag.

Firetrucks will be on display for kids to get up close & vote for your favorite apparatus. See a drone demo & learn how they help fight forest fires.

Grab lunch from the Lio Colon Food Bus or enjoy a cool treat from Greco’s Italian Ices & Homemade Ice Cream

The event will also include face painting and a chance to compete your Smokey Passport and win a prize.
