Pennsylvania State Police are currently accepting applications for their Citizens Police Academy, which will begin in September at the Reading barracks. The program will expand citizens knowledge and understanding of the law and explore police procedure from the perspective of the Pennsylvania State Police.
The Citizens Police Academy involves approximately 20 hours of instruction taught in 2.5 hour segments. The program is scheduled to begin September 16, 2019 and end November 4, 2019. Participants meet each Monday night for 8 weeks from 6:00pm – 8:30pm with the exception of one Tuesday (Tuesday, October 15, 2019).
Students must attend 75% or more of the scheduled classes in order to be eligible to graduate and receive a certificate.
Class size is limited to allow greater interaction between students and instructors. Citizens are selected from interested applicants. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to apply and be a resident of Pennsylvania.
Applications can be picked up at the PA State Police Reading barracks located at 600 Kenhorst Blvd., Reading, PA 19611 or applicants can e-mail Trooper Megan Tornielli at mtornielli@pa.gov to request an email application. Deadline for application submission will be Monday, September 9, 2019
