Raymond Baker announces campaign for Reading City Council

Raymond Baker has officially announced his candidacy for the Reading City Council seat in the 4th District for the 2025 Municipal election. With the support of incumbent District 4 City Councilman Wesley Butler, Baker made the announcement surrounded by friends, family, and supporters in his College Heights home over the weekend.

Raymond “Ray” Baker is running on the mission of sending a young, passionate fighter to City Hall to help Reading restart and rebuild its downtown core into the vibrant urban center it was for so many generations. While working with the outer boroughs, he promises to focus on the prosperity, safety, and community cohesion for the entire region. With the state government recently designating portions of every district as City Revitalization and Improvement Zones (aka CRIZ) Ray’s primary goal is seizing on this advantage, similar to our neighbors in Allentown, to better use our tax dollars to bring in business, rebuild & replace dilapidated buildings, and increase permanent residency across the whole of Reading.

Ray has spent the last 8 years as an Assistant District Attorney in Berks County fighting to make the City of Reading and County of Berks a safer place to live. In his spare time, he has worked tirelessly to better the city: serving on the 2019-2020 City Charter Review Commission, as a member of the Berks County Democratic Committee, 3 of which have been as a member of its Executive Board, and fighting to elect Democrats in Berks in federal, state, county, and local races.

As he launches his campaign, Ray boasts the support of many of Reading and Berks County’s most prominent leaders in Reading City Councilors Jaime Baez, Wesley Butler, Vanessa Campos, and Council President Donna Reed, District Attorney John T. Adams, County Commissioner Dante Santoni, City Auditor Maria Rodriguez, and Reading School Director Melissa Eggert. He remains committed to the City of Reading and his neighbors in the 4th District and intends to bring his passion, experience, and fighting nature to Washington Street to help turn Reading into the city its people deserve.
